Boldcolours are not the only way to peacock personality. Style is deeply personal, driven by culture, friends, peers, socioeconomic and geographical backgrounds.

My line of work means constant contact with high-profile businessmen and professionals - and unfortunately, camo trousers (though I crave Lapo’s so badly) are best left deep in the depths of lust.

And as Winter strikes here in the Antipodes, the time for bold colours - at least for me - is parked - to allow deeper experimentation with cloths and single colour combinations.

I’ve discussed in some detail the History of Gabardine, and the Burberry Trench; characteristics, and purpose.

That was not to say, that Gabardine cannot be applied to a modern man’s suit. These trousers (part of suit) are in a beautiful navy wool Gabardine, much lighter in it’s construction, but with a heft that carries the cloth elegantly across the modern mans silhouette.

This Jacket. Blue/grey with a subtle blue windowpane overcheck; fashioned from the looms of Loro Piana in a fine wool/cashmere, with a self facing construction and a soft spalla camicia at the shoulders. Incredibly soft, and delicate, the cloth defines the wearer, catching the body in the most elegant way.

3 Patch pockets, three-roll-two (two-and-a-half) button, neon-green pick stitching, 4 button surgeon cuffs, not kissing - never kissing.

A modern man’s winter delicacy.

Probably best known as the go-to shirt of Choaties and the like, it seems the light-blue-and-white striped oxford cloth button down, a Brooks Brothers staple, has made the transatlantic journey from New England to Lo Stivale. As anyone who has been following this site will know, I’ve posted a number of photos of Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, current Chairman of Ferrari. While looking through these photos I’ve noticed that Luca time and again favors a light-blue-and-white stripe OCBD (unbuttoned) with his suits, often double-breasted suits with garish lapels worn Kent style to be specific. As Luca has already stated, he loves America, and it would appear he loves one of its classic shirts as well. In fact, it must be something in the ever-stylish CdM gene pool, as Luca’s son Matteo often opts for a similar look. Or maybe it’s something in the Pellegrino, as Italian fans of the striped OCBD include Vittorio Feltri and Carlo Rossella among others.

I recently scheduled an appointment with Mina and Dino Adamo of Napolisumisura for a bespoke dress shirt. I have been debating which fabric to choose, but I may just have my answer.
